Plenary Session III

We picked up this afternoon's session with the Luthera Malaria Initiative (LMI). The funding targets are LWF $30MM, ELCA $25MM, and LCMS $20MM. There was a lot of discussion concerning the resolution but noone ever spoke against it and it took a while for someone to call the question. Yes - 989; No - 11. We have a 2.8MM grant from the UN to flesh out the details and we can expect approval of the large fund raising at the 2011 CWA.

Another 20 minutes were allowed for a quasi committee of the whole to discuss the Human Sexuality Social Statement. The final vote comes up on Thursday and it is close as to whether or not it gets the required 2/3 vote.

I went to the afternoon hearing on the Middle East. Visitors and Observers are the last to enter the room and once we get in, we are not allowed to speak. This hurt. I do have my opinion on how the ELCA has handled the situation. The picture above shows how full the room was.

We had a short report from the VP Carlos Pena and a report from the Ad Hoc committee that was formed to sort out all the amendments to the Sexuality Social Statement and the Ministry Policies - are there are many. Tonight I'll attend (assuming I can get in) he hearing concerning the Ministry Policies
